Writing » Poems » Sudden stop

A while ago,
I met someone.

He was a lord,
A warrior,
A mage,
A dragon,
A friend.

We discussed about life,
Nature,
Art,
Wars,
Politics.

And at one point,
He brought a peculiar topic to the table.

"Most of this country's power holders are corrupt.
There's only one decent guy in that bunch."

I let him continue,
As I wanted to hear more.

"There are two in particular that bother me.
They both hold high ranks,
And one got his through favouritism.
The other was involved, of course."

"And what do you want to happen ?"

"I want to spark a change,
I want to see those two fall,
I want to see good people replace them,
I want to see good people in power."

"But with great power-"
"-comes great responsibility."

I knew he wanted to rule that country.
"I know you know that won't happen.
That's why I want to see other people in power."

"But do you think making them fall is a good thing ?"
"Yes."
"Why ?"

"To be honest,
It's not the fall that kills.
It's the sudden stop at the end."

"And you want them to feel it."
"Exactly."

We waited for a few minutes.

"A storm is approaching."
"And it carries Justice with it."

Notes/trivia

  • Yet another poem taking place in the universe I built.
  • I usually take the "write what you know" principle a bit too far. In fact, most of the major characters in that universe are somewhat based on one of my traits. In the poem, the dragon shows my disdain for corruption and power abuse, as well as reluctance to be in a position of power. But in the end, he did get in power, and ruled the mentioned kingdom fairly.
  • The poem is written from the point of view of the dragon's friend, but the original scene was envisioned from the point of view of the dragon.
