Set us free
They say my mind is odd,
I say their eyes are closed.
Though the only mind I understand is mine.
There was a death in the family,
Everyone's eyes got misty.
Though the only eyes that didn't are mine.
The difference between them and me
Is that I was ready.
I sensed Death was coming
And I was preparing
To let go of the past,
Because I knew Death would be coming fast.
Death is not our enemy.
We should greet her like an old friend,
Because one day our lives will end...
And she will set us free.
Notes/trivia
- This is my first poem ever.
- I refer to Death as "she" in the poem, because the French "Mort" is a feminine noun.
