Poems » Warrior's death

I was sitting on the ground.
A man...
No, that's wrong.
A dragon was looking at me.

He had a sword on his back,
Another in his hand.
He put a blade on the ground,
Right in front of me.

"What do you want from me ?"
He didn't answer straight away.
And when he finally spoke,
It was in a language I didn't understand.

When he saw my expression,
He sighed.
"What do I want from you ?
I want you to try and kill me."

"What the..?"
"You heard correctly.
You might not know it, but...
We are two sides of the same coin."

"What do you mean ?"
"I am your alter ego.
More precisely,
I am your delusional side.

You once called me Fencer,
Or even the Flame of Vengeance.
I am so powerful,
That you will stand no chance against me.

Or at least you would,
If we weren't one and the same."
I knew he wanted a warrior's death,
So I took the sword in front of me.

I felt my blood pumping like never before.
I stood up,
Sword at the ready.
He drew his own blade.

We had the exact same stance.
Then we charged
At the same time.
Our styles were identical.

My mind's eye woke up.
I read the battle
Like an open book.
I knew how to defeat him.

While I could have killed
That dragon here and now,
I made the battle last.
It was exhilarating.

With each of his fierce attacks,
I responded in kind.
He didn't know
I had a plan.

He charged at me,
His sword pointed towards my heart.
I dodged while pointing
My blade towards his heart.

It happened in a second.
Blood spilled.
A weapon fell.
A body collapsed.

I knelt.
"May you rest in peace."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome.

After all,
I can't deny a warrior
The death he deserves."
His body faded away.

The world reacted
To the dragon's death.
Everything was fading,
Until only I remained.

The world
Was now a black void.
This was the true nature
Of this reality.

I heard a signal
From another world.
A message that said
"Wake up".

  • This poem is based on an old dream I had in August 2014. That dream was a bit weird, to be honest.
