Poems » Darkness within

Darkness corrupted my mind and soul
As I got depressed again.
Once again,
The people around me are responsible.

I wanted to keep my beloved in the dark,
I didn't want to make her sad,
I didn't want to see her being sad,
I didn't want to hurt her.

Yet I went to find her,
Then I cried in her arms.
I cried for minutes.
She held me tightly.

As my tears stopped flowing,
I felt her lips on mine.
That kiss was her way to say
"I'll always be here for you."

She might have only a slight smile,
But she knew I would do my best for our sake.
Her Love truly is the most powerful force
In this universe.

She brightens my life
Whenever I see her.
Her light guides me
In my darkest hours.

But I need to find the right balance
Between light and shadow.
In the end, it's never just the light I need.
When balance slays the demon, I'll find peace.

Notes/trivia

  • I started struggling with depression since some time in 2014. While I'm fine nowadays (as of the 18th of July 2020), it wasn't always the case, especially back when I wrote that poem.
  • The last two lines of the poem are modified lines from the song Balance Slays the Demon, by Old Gods of Asgard (a fictional band from the game Alan Wake).
